WHAT IS TAEKWONDO?
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art known for its powerful kicking techniques, dynamic hand strikes, and precise, disciplined movements. More than just a system of self-defense, it is a holistic practice that cultivates respect, courtesy, perseverance, integrity, and self-control.
The term “Taekwondo” comes from three Korean words: Tae (to kick), Kwon (to strike or punch), and Do (the way or path). Together, they form the meaning “the way of the foot and fist,” reflecting both the physical techniques and the philosophical foundation of the art.
Taekwondo combines physical training with mental discipline. Practitioners learn structured forms called poomsae, as well as sparring, breaking techniques, and practical self-defense skills. Training is typically conducted in a respectful and supportive environment, encouraging personal growth, confidence, and character development alongside physical fitness.
